Bureaucracy Shall Always Have The Last Laugh!
And from Germany again comes a crazy tale of freedom of
expression having gone berserk. Alexander Mechthold, of Arnsberg, Germany,
applied for a passport and, along with the application, gave photos of his in
which he was sticking out his tongue. When the officials rejected his
application on obvious grounds, he went to a Court. And the Court has held that
there is no law, which prohibits Germans from sticking out their tongues in the
passport photo, and so Alexander Mechthold cannot be denied a passport for this
reason. The Passport Office has now granted him the passport, but only after he
signed a written undertaking that he accepted full responsibility for any
trouble he may encounter with the border police guards.
