NOW, inquiries done often in the accounts office of the Railways by its employees can simply be made by sending SMS messages.

A railway press release said information like PF details of employees, along with the PF application status, pension details of retiring employees and status of the bills of outside parties, can be found just by sending an SMS at the designated number.

The computer auto-generates the reply based on the current and latest position of the bills or the PF/Pension details, the release added.

The various codes are PFI for PF balance inquiry, PAI for PF application inquiry, PNI for pension inquiry and BLI for Bill inquiry.

Divisional Railway Manager G. N. Asthana, in a press release, said it was a step in the direction of the empowerment of the employees as well as the customers by focusing on the transparency in dealings.
