A Sweet Tooth Has Its Uses!

Simon McEvoy, a policeman in Oldham, U.K., was badgered by his doctors for having a sweet tooth. This did not, however, prevent him from carrying a bag of sweets all the time, even when he was on duty. One night, in Oldham, thieves tried to steal a scooter by saw-cutting the pipe to which it had been chained. This pipe was, in fact, a gas pipe, and sure enough, gas started leaking from it and the thieves ran away. McEvoy reached the scene and understood the gravity of the situation. Not lacking in resourcefulness, he took out his bag of sweets and plugged the leak by pasting Liquorice Allsort, a sticky sweet, which he had. “I first tried Coconut Allsort, but it didn’t fit, then I tried Liquorice Allsort, and it fitted perfectly”, he said.
