This could be news
planted by the New York Police Department (NYPD). But the respectable New York
Times has reported that NYPD’s relentless drive against organised crime has
resulted in a serious dwindling of the work force of the New York Mafia. The
wastage is due to imprisonment, deaths, and well, due to voluntary retirements
from a career of crime. The loss is estimated at ten per cent a year by the
NYPD. So what does an organisation do when its cadres get depleted and the
market continues to be buoyant? It can’t possibly let the drug, extortion,
gambling, and vice den rackets starved of manpower. So the Mafia has started a
recruitment drive and senior gang bosses are even considering looking outside
the Mafia’s traditional recruiting ground, the close-knit Italian –American
families----a case of waiving the statutory reservations, clearly. One of the Mafia sources told the New York
Times, “You have to inject new blood into the family”.
If you are disgruntled
about your career prospects, and have the right qualifications, this may be
your chance of a lifetime, that is, provided you don’t mind the risk of ending
up with a “lifer” for your deeds.
