HAPPY NEW YEAR!

My poems are but a dedication to everything around me. This time they are a tribute to the New Year that has recently arrived. The first is in praise of the ‘fickle but faithful one’ that comes each year without fail. The following two verses (in Haiku form) are in conjunction with the resolution that it brings along with it.

Haiku is a beautiful form of structured verse. Perhaps the Japanese way of saying that brevity can also be the soul of poetry. The essence of the verse is captured in three simple lines in a total of seventeen syllables- five, seven, five. This New Year, I have managed to convey my resolutions through this brief form of verse. Both the Haikus are directed towards my hobby (writing) and my total lack of confidence in it (maybe because of the multiple rejections I keep receiving from the publishers). But this year I am determined to present myself with a fresh new assertiveness. For no matter what people say, feel or think about my writing, I resolve to be confident and to be patient. And I resolve NEVER, ever to put a stop to the flow of my ideas.

THE FICKLE FAITHFUL

She is the epitome of fickle love

She is the essence of change

She is the epithet of novel times

She is the spirit of range

Happy and pristine she waltzes each year

At twelve, not a second too late

On the stroke of night, she staunchly arrives

But with always a brand new date!

My New Year Resolutions………………..

                     CONFIDENCE

          My thoughts will make waves

            Wherever the tide takes me

                   Adrift or ashore.

                        PATIENCE

                 My writings, I’ll freeze

            Wait with fortitude for Time

                 To gently thaw them.

May this Year bring Health and Cheer to all!
