Mindless, But Royal!

So far, bureaucracy in government has been the subject of guffaws and jibes which ridicule its mindless and dumb ways. In U.K., it is now the turn of Royal Mail, in spite if its partial privatisation.

There is a town named Oban in northern U.K. Somehow it has been so happening that the second-class mail posted at Oban has been reaching destinations along with first class mail posted on the same day. In a market-oriented economy this is a blasphemy. So what does Royal Mail do? Believe it or not, but it has decided to route all second-class mail to Glasgow and back although this is not really necessary. And although all mail is sorted at Oban, the second-class mail will be resorted at Glasgow and sent back to Oban for its onward journey so that it keeps a respectable time distance from the first class mail. After all, people who have paid more should get quicker service, isn’t it?
