Shri Amit Kaushik, IRAS, presently with UNDP/UNESCO, has edited a book titled "Shiksha: The Challenge of Indian Education”. The book is a collection of essays and interviews “…that brings together the voices of a diverse group of people, all of whom have one characteristic in common — they care about the future of our children.” The book was released by Shri Arjun Singh, Union Minister for Human Resources Development, recently in New Delhi. Shri Ananthanarayanan, IRAS (1975), had earlier been writing a column in the Indian Express under the title 'Simple Science'. Now his articles appear in Times Of India, Deccan Herald and The Statesman. M/s Penguins has already published a book written by him on Indian scientists who have made epoch-making contribution to the world of science. The book has been translated into Telugu. An award for 'Outstanding efforts in Science and Technolgy Communication in the print medium' was given to him by the Hon'ble Minister for Science and Technology Shri Kapil Sibal in a function held in the Technology Bhavan in New Delhi on 1st March 2007.

Shri Mudit Mittal, IRAS(1996) and Shri S. Krishnamurthy, IRAS(1989) are the first two officers from IRAS to be posted as CPROs on the zonal railways, on WCR and SR respectively. Shri S. Ram Mohan, FA&CAO/ICF. Shri S. Ram Mohan, IRAS(1972) is being conferred with the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Computer Society of India in its annual Convention in Delhi on 11.12.2003. The award is annually given to those who have made significant contribution to the field of Information Technology and Knowledge Management and Public Service. The Hall of Fame includes several top academicians, business executives and service personnel. Sri Ram Mohan is the first Officer from the Civil Services for this Coveted award. For Shri Ram Mohan, this is not the only recognition of his abilities. Renowned Scholar and multi-linguist, he was invited to speak in several International Conferences in the past, the special ones being the World Congress of Religion, International Buddhist Conference at Colombo, Conference on Epics in Malaysia, ‘Science and Beyond’ at Indian Institute of Science, ‘Cognitive Science’ Conference etc. He is the Editor of two Philosophical Journals - one in English and the other in Tamil. The ‘Awakening of India’ Quiz organized by Chinmaya Mission under his guidance was a spectacular success with the participation of 3 lakh students from all over India. We are proud to have such a multi-faceted and multi-talented colleague.

Shri Anil Sainani(1989) Shri Anil Sainani, IRAS(1989), has stood 2nd in his batch in the PGP in Public Policy and Management at IIM, Bangalore. He is one of the three (out of 26) participants in the course to have passed with an overall A/Excellent Grade. Shri Sainani's paper on 'Enhancing Accountability in Tendering Systems on Indian Railways' was adjudged the best paper at Maxwell School of Syracuse University, where the participants had gone for 7 weeks as part of the course.

Best Woman Executive - Mrs. Vandana Singhal, IRAS(1977)
Mrs. Vandana Singhal, an IRAS Officer of 1977 batch, presently on deputation to Oil Industry Development Board under Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has been awarded the "Best Woman Executive" in the Oil Sector under NPMP Award for Excellence in the Individual Category. The Award was presented by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar Ji on May 20, 2002 in the distinguished presence of Shri B.K. Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and Shri S. Murali, Financial Commissioner(Railways) at a Special Ceremony held at the Convention Hall, Hotel Ashok, New Delhi. Shri Deepak Kumar Khairha, currently posted as JAO(PC)/BSL/Central Railway, of the IRAS-1997 exam batch, received the Gold Medal on 31/01/2002, on the Foundation Day function of Railway Staff College, Vadodara, for being adjudged the Best Probationer in the Foundation course. Shri Vinay Hande, currently posted as JAO/ Stores/ Southern Railway, of the IRAS-1998 exam batch, received the following two awards recently:
1) On 22/10/2001, on the Annual Day Function of the ‘National Institute of Financial Management’, Faridabad, from the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Shri. Yashwant Sinha, for standing first in the 7th Professional Training Course (Year 2000), conducted for all Central Govt. Accounts and Finance services probationers.
2) On 31/01/2002, on the Foundation Day function of ‘Railway Staff College’, Vadodara, from Dr. V. Kurien, Chairman, ‘National Dairy Development Board’, for being adjudged the Best IRAS Probationer of the 1998 exam batch, for his overall performance during the probationary period. Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways, Shri. O Rajagopal also graced the occasion. Ms. Amita Shukla IRAS, 1998 exam. batch currently working as ADAO/JBP/CR was adjudged as the best Lady Probationer who underwent training at RSC in 2001. She is the first recipient of the award which has been instituted from this year itself.
Shri Dhrub Jyoti Sengupta IRAS, 1998 exam currently working as ADAO/HWH/ER was awarded the Maheshwar Dayal Cup, 2001 for all round excellence in cultural and extracultural activities during his probationary period.
The above awards were presented to the probationers during the Golden Jubilee Function of RSC on 31.1.2002.
