A bride running away from the bridegroom after wedding has
been happening. But what happened to a farmer from the Fujian province of China
was singularly unfortunate. He contracted a bride to marry him after paying the
conventional dowry of approximately Rs. One lac to her. Naturally when the
bride ran away immediately after the wedding ceremony, he chased her into
another town. On finding her, a fight ensued, and when he grappled with her, he
suddenly realized that the bride was actually a man. This was too much of a
shock to him, and in the resultant confusion, the bride escaped. He says his
mortification was further aggravated when he went to the police, and they just
laughed and laughed.
