Privatisation of British Railway system has not been liked in Britain and naturally all kinds of jokes are floated. One such story making the rounds is about a fast train from London to Birmingham run by a private company. The train was not supposed to stop at a particular roadside station, but it stopped on the platform of that station because the section ahead was not clear and so the train was given a red signal. An old lady on the platform who had been waiting to travel in the same direction tried to get into the train by pressing the “Open Door” button on a coach of this train. The Guard’s compartment was adjacent and the Guard popped out his head out of his door to tell the lady, “Sorry, ma’am, but you can’t get into this train here”. The lady was not to be put out so easily and quipped back," Well, in that case, why have you stopped the train here?” The Guard’s reply was rather frivolous. He said, “Ma’am, we have stopped the train just to tell you that you can’t get in here!”
