Till recently, Frane Selak, of
Croatia, was dubbed as the world’s unluckiest person. What else would you name
a person who was in a train which plunged into an icy river, killing 17 persons
in 1962; was sucked out of a plane when a door flew open in mid-air, but landed
on a haystack; and landed in a river when the bus he was travelling in fell in
it, killing four passengers in 1966. And to cap it all, a bus has once knocked
him down on a road and twice, he was in the car, which exploded due to a petrol
leak.
Well, now it looks as if his luck has taken a turn
for something very, very, good. He won a £600,000 prize on the Croatian
Lottery. “How will he spend the money?” the 74-year-old Frane was asked. His
reply was classic. “I have had four failed marriages and I want to spend the
money on my girl friend”, he replied. His girl friend, by the way, is 20 years
younger than him.
