The new IRAS Logo assimilates the past, present and future to demonstrate the future ready IRAS which upholds the principles of “Propriety, Proficiency and Productivity”.
The logo has been carefully designed to demonstrate the nature of the service and contemporary times.
Adorned with the National Emblem, the logo symbolizes service to the Government of India. The Railway bogie resting on the track symbolizes that IRAS is dedicated to serving the Indian Railways, the three wheels represents evolution and motion, and upholding the motto of “Propriety, Proficiency and Productivity”. The book and the computer monitor symbolizes that IRAS is the fusion of both old and new methods of analysis, its ability to continuously evolve and embrace innovations, bridging the traditional methods of accounting and book-keeping with latest technology such as data analysis, AI etc. to propel IR to an upward growth trajectory.
Finally the 25 pairs of leaves on the logo represents the 17 Zonal Railways and 8 Production units which comprise India Railways. They also symbolizes wisdom, prosperity, motion and continuity.
The logo is a demonstration of the “FUTURE READY IRAS”.

In Memoriam
Dr K S Subramanian, IRAS 1959 exam batch
With profound grief the IRAS fraternity mourns the sad demise of Dr K S Subramanian, an illustrious member of IRAS ( 1959 exam) who passed away on 24.10.2020 at Apollo hospital in Chennai due to cardiac arrest at the age of 83. Popularly known as KS, Dr Subramanian had worked in Western Railway and Southern Railway during the period from 1960 to 1975 before joining Asian Development Bank (ADB) from where he eventually retired as a Director of the Bank. He acquired an MBA degree from Manila University and a PhD from Philippines University. After retirement he settled in Chennai and became a popular writer in Tamil. He was well known for his Public Speaking both in English and Tamil. During his college days, the college which he represented in the intercollege debates would invariably get the first prize.
Well-versed in Tamil, English and Sanskrit, he has published many books in Tamil on literary, social and development themes. An expert translator, he has rendered into English several works of late Jayakantan, famous Tamil writer. The Sahitya Academy has taken his help in their Katha Bharti project to reach Indian literary masterpieces to the international arena.
Our deepest condolences to his family as we stand by them in this hour of grief. May the departed soul rest in peace.
